A conversation between brain and body.
- 01
Hypothalamus
The brain releases GnRH.
GnRH signal - 02
Pituitary gland
Releases LH and FSH.
LH & FSH signals - 03
Testes
LH drives testosterone. FSH and testosterone support sperm production.
When to consider an assessment
Sexual function
Lower sex drive, fewer morning erections or erection problems.
Your body
Less muscle or body hair. Low bone density.
How you feel
Low energy, low mood or poor concentration.
Symptoms are a starting point. Many have other causes. Diagnosis needs symptoms plus consistently low blood results.
How deficiency is diagnosed
We combine your history with blood tests taken during your appointment, repeated if needed. LH and FSH help show whether the cause lies in the testes or the brain’s signals. Sometimes further tests or a specialist referral come before treatment. About our blood tests
Treatment and realistic expectations
If deficiency is confirmed and TRT is suitable, testosterone can be given as an injection, a topical gel applied to the skin, or capsules taken by mouth. We’ll help you choose the form that suits you. Benefits vary from person to person. Every prescription comes with a review plan and clear safety advice. A consultation doesn’t commit you to treatment.
Fertility
Testosterone treatment can stop sperm production. Tell us if you want children now or in future. TRT is not contraception, and no added medicine guarantees fertility is preserved.
Risks and monitoring
Possible side effects include acne, a raised red blood cell count and worse sleep apnoea. Regular blood tests and reviews check your response and safety. Never adjust your dose based on website information. Endocrine Society guidance
